‘From the Bench – 2019’ is a book published by AB&A Legal, containing 49 chapters, that analyse selected judgments of our courts during year 2019, as originally published weekly on the Times of Malta. The reports are written in simple language, and a gripping narrative. The idea is that these chapters can be read and understood by the non-legal person, the law student, and the lawyer.
‘From the Bench’ is the result of the contributions of a dedicated team of young lawyers forming part of our team, who collectively read every single court judgment published last year, in an effort to deliver a proper compendium of analyses of the most significant judgments delivered by our courts.
Former Judge of the European Court of Human Rights had this to say about this book:
“The authors hit on a different strategy: leave justice serious but make its reporting fun. Every report is still an account of a judgement, but trussed up in some literature, some human interest, historical anecdote, shreds of irony and a cultural cast. It seems the editor made it imperative, on pain of dismissal, to ensure that anyone who started, would also finish reading the report. I learn from the authors and avoid clichés like unputdownable.”
